Located in 301 S. Border Ave., Weslaco, TX, the Valley Nature Center introduces students and families to the environmental sciences and the wonder of nature through, hands-on learning and guided exploration. The VNC is working to replace the 70-year old building which has housed the educational facilities, to give students and families safe access to better environmental educational opportunities. As any environmental education center facility should, it will act as an example of good natural resource management and conservation for present and future generations. The facility’s BMPs are: Rainwater collection, Green, Pervious walking trails, Pervious service road and a treatment wetland with native and riparian plantings. Current Status: Boardwalk completed (under TPWD Recreation Trails Grant), Approximately 75% of native wetland vegetation installed.
